What it is

Consultation that builds real EMDR confidence

EMDR consultation is professional-to-professional guidance from an EMDRIA Approved Consultant™. It’s where the eight phases you learned in training become second nature, where you bring your hardest cases, and where you build the depth and confidence that define a skilled EMDR clinician.

Whether you’re working toward EMDRIA certification or simply want a seasoned thought-partner for your trauma work, consultation gives you a steady place to grow.

Who it’s for

  • Therapists who have completed EMDR Basic Training and want to pursue EMDRIA certification
  • Newly trained EMDR clinicians who want case support and confidence
  • Experienced EMDR therapists wanting to deepen and refine their work
  • Clinicians working with complex trauma or sexual health who want specialty-aligned consultation
  • Local clinicians who want to complete individual certification hours with an Approved Consultant

Consultation options

Individual consultation, built around your cases

Consultation currently happens one-on-one, which can count toward as many of your certification hours as you need.

Individual consultation

One-on-one case consultation tailored to your clients, your questions, and the areas you most want to strengthen. Individual hours can make up as much of your certification requirement as you need.

Specialty case consultation

Focused consultation on the cases in Rachael's wheelhouse: complex trauma and sexual health, and using a somatic and relational approach to adapt EMDR when the standard protocol isn't quite enough.

Certification hours

A natural fit for local clinicians who want to complete some or all of their individual consultation hours toward EMDRIA certification with an Approved Consultant.

Stay tuned for upcoming groups. Group consultation is on the way. Reach out to be the first to know when new groups open.

The Approved Consultant advantage

Every hour with Rachael counts toward certification

EMDRIA caps the hours you can earn with a Consultant-in-Training at 15. Because Rachael is a full EMDRIA Approved Consultant™, all 20 of your required consultation hours can be completed in one place, with one consultant who knows your work.

The path

Your route to EMDRIA certification

A clear, four-step path, with consultation at the center of it.

01

Complete EMDR Basic Training

An EMDRIA-approved basic training program is the prerequisite. Consultation hours earned during training do not count toward certification.

02

Accrue 20 consultation hours

Complete at least 20 hours of consultation after basic training, with a minimum of 10 hours one-on-one.

03

Meet practice requirements

Log the required EMDR sessions and clients, and maintain your license in good standing.

04

Apply for certification

Submit your application to EMDRIA with your consultant's recommendation. Rachael will help you feel ready.

Requirements are set by the EMDR International Association and may change. Rachael will confirm the current criteria with you and map them to your goals.

Questions

EMDR consultation FAQs

What is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant™?+
An EMDRIA Approved Consultant™ is a clinician who has met the EMDR International Association's advanced requirements to provide consultation to other therapists working toward EMDR certification. Rachael holds this designation in addition to being an EMDR Certified Therapist™.
How many consultation hours do I need for EMDR certification?+
EMDRIA certification requires at least 20 hours of consultation with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, completed after your EMDR Basic Training. At least 10 of those hours must be individual (one-on-one) consultation; the remainder may be completed in a group of no more than eight participants.
Do you offer individual or group consultation?+
Right now Rachael offers individual, one-on-one consultation. Because individual hours can count toward your entire 20-hour requirement, you can pursue certification with individual consultation alone. Stay tuned for upcoming groups, and reach out if you'd like to be the first to know when new consultation groups open.
Do the consultation hours from my basic training count?+
No. Only consultation hours completed after you finish EMDR Basic Training count toward the 20 hours required for certification. The consultation built into your training does not apply.
Why does it matter that Rachael is an Approved Consultant and not a Consultant-in-Training?+
All 20 of your certification hours can be completed with a full EMDRIA Approved Consultant™. If you work with a Consultant-in-Training, no more than 15 of your hours may be earned with them, meaning you'd need to find an Approved Consultant for the rest.
Do you offer consultation virtually?+
Yes. Consultation is available both in person at Rachael's Jackson, MS office and virtually, so you can meet from anywhere in the country. Many clinicians prefer the flexibility of virtual consultation.
Is consultation the same as supervision or therapy?+
No. EMDR consultation is professional-to-professional guidance focused on developing your EMDR skills and case conceptualization. It is distinct from clinical supervision for licensure and from personal therapy.
